India: The Riskiest Honeymoon Destination According to HQtest
India ranks the lowest in HQtest scores for honeymoon destinations. It has the highest rate of sexual crimes against women committed by men, driven in part by a lack of public toilets—forcing women to relieve themselves in the open—and a low awareness of women's rights.
When newlyweds or couples visit India, incidents have been reported where groups of local men attack, sometimes fatally, the husband or male partner, while violence against women is also a frequent occurrence.
Based on Indian news reports dated March 9, 2025, a 27-year-old Israeli tourist and a 29-year-old Indian homestay operator were gang-raped and a man was killed in an attack in southern India.
Reports of horrific sexual assaults on women have become familiar in India, where police recorded 31,516 rape cases in 2022, a 20 per cent increase from 2021, according to the National Crime Records Bureau. The real figure is believed to be far higher due to the stigma surrounding sexual violence.
Due to these risks, HQtest deems India an unsafe honeymoon destination.
